UN GLOBAL GOALS AND A GLOBAL COMPACT

SDG 8 - Decent work and economic growth

Within social responsibility, Eva Solo is actively working to reduce our negative impact on SDG 8, specifically targets 8.5, 8.7 and 8.8. Due to the industry we are in, we have a particular impact on these targets.

Target 8.5: By 2030, achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all women and men, including for youth and persons with disabilities, and equal pay for work of equal value.

Target 8.7: Take immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labour, modern slavery and trafficking in persons and to ensure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labour, including the recruitment and use of child soldiers, and to eliminate child labour in all its forms by 2025.

These goals also correlate with the United Nations Global Compact's Ten Principles, particularly principles 1-2 (human rights), 3-6 (labour rights) and 10 (anti-corruption).

In addition to requiring all our tier-1 suppliers to fulfil our CoC, we are also a member of the amfori Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI). Through our co-operation with amfori BSCI, we are committed to respecting human rights to the extent within our influence. Amfori BSCI's purpose is to improve labour conditions in global supply chains, and as a member, we have access to BSCI audits conducted by third-party auditors. Eva Solo requires all our suppliers to have a valid BSCI audit, SMETA report or equivalent.

SDG 12 - Responsible consumption and production

As a leading hardware brand, we feel a responsibility to pioneer changes in production and resource use towards a more sustainable and circular future. Our business practices have a direct impact on SDG 12, especially targets 12.2, 12.4 and 12.

Target 12.2: By 2030, achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources.

Target 12.4: By 2020, achieve the environmentally sound management of chemicals and waste throughout their life cycle, in accordance with the agreed international framework, and significantly reduce emissions to air, water and land to minimise negative impacts on human health and the environment.

Target 12.5: By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse.

A significant part of our product range consists of steel cookware, such as pans, pots and thermos flasks. Three years ago, we started introducing a range of products made from recycled steel. This is making a positive difference. By using recycled materials to manufacture new products, we save resources as it reduces the need to extract new raw materials. Today, 17% of our steel products are made from recycled steel and we are continuing this positive development. For example, in autumn 2022, we switched our Urban To Go series to recycled steel.

Furthermore, our products are of high quality, which means we can offer extended durability guarantees on many of them. Durable products support sustainable resource utilisation by making it possible to use the product again and again.

In the workplace, we focus on waste sorting, recycling resources and reducing our waste. Since 2021, we have reduced our waste by almost 30 per cent. Our largest waste fraction, corrugated cardboard, has been reduced by almost a fifth, and our second largest waste fraction, small combustibles, has been reduced by almost 50 per cent in just one year.

SDG 15 - Life on land

UN Sustainable Development Goal 15 focuses on protecting, restoring and promoting the sustainable use of ecosystems

on land. As Eva Solo produces products in wood, it is important for us to minimise our negative impact on this SDG, especially targets 15.2 and 15.5. One of the ways we work towards this is by using FSC®-certified products and packaging.

Target 15.2: Promote the implementation of sustainable management of all types of forests, halt deforestation, restore degraded forests and substantially increase afforestation and reforestation globally.

Target 15.5: Take urgent and significant action to reduce the degradation of natural habitats, halt biodiversity loss and, by 2020, protect and prevent the extinction of threatened species.

FSC®, Forest Stewardship Council®, is the world's most ambitious global certification for responsible forest management. As an FSC®-certified company, we can vouch that our FSC®-certified wood in production comes from well-managed forests and other responsible sources. This means that the wood is managed in a way that is supports biodiversity, benefits local citizens and workers, and ensures economic sustainability. With forest certification, FSC® contributes to ensuring good conditions for biodiversity, water environment, indigenous peoples and forest workers globally, as well as promoting democracy and education locally. FSC® also ensures that the forest area remains constant from generation to generation and prevents deforestation. According to FSC®, the certification supports 14 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and the green transition.

Look for our FSC®-certified products on our website (Licence code FSC-C159943). Eva Solo sells both FSC® 100% and FSC® MIX. We are committed to offering more FSC®-certified products - since 2021, we have switched almost 50 per cent of all our products to FSC®.

Goals 12 and 15 correlate with UN Global Compact Principles 7-9 (environment).
